Monate Game Lodge offers a diverse range of unforgettable lodge activities designed to connect guests with nature while catering to every pace and preference. From engaging and educational experiences led by knowledgeable rangers to moments of pure relaxation, these lodge activities promise a peaceful escape into the African bush. Whether you’re seeking adventure or simply looking to unwind, there is something for everyone to enjoy in this tranquil bushveld setting.

Set within an almost 3 000-hectare private, malaria-free reserve, the lodge is rich in natural diversity, featuring wide open plains, classic bushveld landscapes, and striking rocky outcrops, caves, and koppies. This varied environment is home to an impressive range of wildlife, including buffalo, giraffe, hippopotamus, zebra, and a large variety of antelope, as well as nearly 50% of South Africa’s bird species, making it ideal for both wildlife enthusiasts and casual nature lovers.

Our professional and enthusiastic rangers guide guests through the reserve on early-morning and late-afternoon game drives, sharing fascinating insights into the ecosystems and animal behaviour along the way. Unwind with Leisure-Focused Lodge Activities in a Tranquil Bushveld Setting
Unwind and recharge with a selection of relaxing lodge activities designed to help you slow down and enjoy the peaceful rhythm of the bush. Cool off with a refreshing dip in one of our sparkling blue swimming pools, soak away tension in the Jacuzzi, or spend a lazy afternoon lounging on the recliners with a cold drink in hand. For light-hearted fun, guests can enjoy a game of putt-putt, catch live sports on the big screen in the bar, or retreat to the quiet comfort of the lounge with a good book.

These laid-back lodge activities are also ideal for corporate guests, offering the perfect balance after a full day of meetings, strategy sessions, or conferences. Informal activities provide excellent opportunities for team-building, encouraging connection and relaxation in a natural environment. Additional structured team-building activities can be arranged in advance to suit your group’s objectives.

GUIDED GAME DRIVES
Daily Guided Game Drives with Experienced Rangers as Part of Our Lodge Activities
Guided game drives are among the most popular lodge activities at Monate Game Lodge. Start your day early with a morning game drive while the coolness of the night still lingers, enjoying a warm cup of coffee from one of our scenic vantage points as the bushveld awakens. Keen birdwatchers especially enjoy the mornings, as the reserve is home to a wide variety of bird species.

Every afternoon drive concludes with a relaxing sundowner somewhere on our beautiful reserve. This time of day is well known for game viewing, as animals begin moving toward water sources after a warm African day, increasing the chances of spotting wildlife interactions during these lodge activities.

Guests may also join a night drive, where interpretations of the stars and constellations of the Southern Hemisphere are shared. Common constellations such as Orion, Scorpio, and the Southern Cross can be viewed, along with bright stars and planets, through the Celestron NexStar 4SE telescope. Night drives must be pre-booked.

GAME WALKS
For Active Guests, Swap Your Game Drive for Guided Bush Walks.
One of our experienced field guides will take you into the bush by vehicle before exploring the area on foot as part of our lodge activities, pointing out fauna, insects, and other fascinating details often missed from the back of a game viewer. You may even encounter larger wildlife such as antelope, giraffe, or zebra along the way, while your guide ensures both your safety and the well-being of the animals at all times.

For bird lovers and budding ornithologists, bird watching is one of the most rewarding lodge activities at Monate Game Lodge. Almost 50% of South Africa’s bird species can be spotted in this area, thanks to the surrounding natural bushveld and wetland environment.

Spa Treatments That Enhance Our Lodge Activities Experience
Whether you visit Monate Game Lodge to unwind or simply wish to add a relaxing treatment to your stay, a selection of spa treatments can be arranged in the comfort of your room or in a tranquil bushveld setting. While Monate does not have a dedicated on-site spa facility, treatments are thoughtfully coordinated to ensure a peaceful and personalised experience. As therapists are not always available on-site, we recommend booking your treatments in advance, together with your accommodation, to avoid disappointment.
CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING
For the Adventurous and Competitive, Enjoy Action-Packed Lodge Activities
Clay pigeon shooting is one of the more exciting lodge activities, offering guests the chance to test their aim while competing against time, as each clay remains airborne for only a few seconds. Clear instructions and professional guidance are provided, and no previous experience is required, making this activity suitable for both beginners and experienced shooters. To avoid disappointment, advance booking is required to ensure availability.
ANCIENT ROCK ART
Explore Archaeological Heritage Through Unique Lodge Activities in Limpopo
Exploring ancient rock art is one of the most fascinating lodge activities available on our reserve. The archaeological heritage includes ancestral Stone Age sites, Bushmen paintings, and a variety of Central African rain-control sites, with a historical timeline dating back approximately 300 000 years to the present day.

On request, our rangers will guide guests through the historical and cultural significance of these remarkable sites as part of our educational lodge activities.
