Monate is set in a private game reserve, home to Leopard, Cheetah, Buffalo, Hippo, Rhino, Brown Hyena, Crocodile, Caracal and Jackall as well as a large variety of antelope such as Giraffe, Kudu, Eland, Waterbuck and Nyala. Being close to the Nylsvlei Nature Conservancy, a birding paradise, home to 46% of the bird species in Southern Africa, birding is prolific on the reserve with many new sightings reported.
